Question of the Week

Give us some feedback, Comment below!
This week's question(18-25th December) surrounds the T20 Big Bash League and International Test Match Duty.

Do Cricket Australia have the schedule for the T20 Big Bash League and Domestic Cricket wrong? Should Test players be returning to Sheffield Shield Cricket instead of the T20 Big Bash League to better prepare for Test Matches or potential International call-ups?
Best Response: PENDING - COMMENT NOW!

This week's question (11-18th December) involves selection with the Australian team after their humiliating loss to New Zealand in Hobart.
Shane Watson and Shaun Marsh (maybe a doubt) are returning for Boxing Day, Who do they replace? What is your top 6 for the Australian order?
Best Response: With Shaun Marsh in doubt, I believe that Usman Khawaja would retain his spot.Otherwise Marsh would slot right in. He hasn't done anything necessarily bad but just hasn't converted just about every innings he has played. Although Ed Cowan is roaring for a go, I think because Usman Khawaja is already in the team he will take the number 3 spot. This makes my top 6.

Shane Watson
Dave Warner
Usman Khawaja
Ricky Ponting
Michael Clarke
Michael Hussey

Obvious Phil Hughes is the man being dropped after Warner's good innings and a lack of form.

  1. I believe that they have got the schedule right, becuause CA has put so much marketing and time into the BBL, it has to go somewhere! The Test players can go into 'test mode' on Tuesday when the first round of BBL is over. Cricket players are paid to play cricket, so let them do it!

  2. Well although usually this wouldn't be a problem because the Australian Test team has never probably seen an injury and form crisis like this in the last 15 years. But this problem has exposed that Shield Cricket should be played during the Tests to act as a cover for our most important team and form of the game.

I think that it is great that the BBL to be played during the holidays to entice children to take part in Domestic Cricket, but their should be a round of Shield cricket to prepare for the worst. The Big Bash League could still be played throughout the summer but would have a week break as the State teams battled it out over 4 days.

I know that their are Chairman's XI games, but in the seriousness of the matter do these games really offer anything when the touring side is just looking to play at 75% as a warm up. At least with a Shield game, it can minorly emulate what could be expected on Boxing Day.

I understand, that a hit out is a hit out and the T20 offers this to International players, but it doesn't offer any technical and perseverance training for our Test players in match conditions, even for bowlers. Playing loose shots and edging all over the park is exactly the opposite to what we want on Boxing Day.
